THE best skiing waters in the Western Cape

This is one of the foremost things that you just have to try in your life. The Great Berg River snakes through the Western Cape from Franshoek to Langebaan. And 20km of this slithering snake is available to the guests of Club Elani, Misverstand.

From what I’ve heard in Swarries bar – not only the best but, most probably, also the cleanest.

And add to that our good weather factor – and you’ve hit the WATERSKI JACKPOT! Miserable weather in the big city of Cape Town – 9 times out of 10 means sunshine at Misverstand. Sunshine in Cape Town – 9 times out of 10 means we are cooking at Misverstand. Those big southerly winds that you city slickers moan about continuously – 9 times out of 10 means we are playing “Spot the leaves moving on this tree!”

One of the biggest advantages that we have is if the wind blows around this corner you can be guaranteed that it will not be blowing around the next. And no sir, if it rains we can guarantee you that it will be raining the whole river. And yes sir, if it rains it is wet and so will you be if you are skiing!

Winter is THE best skiing time. Will you believe me if I tell you that we have guests that only come to visit in winter because of skiing? Flat water like a mirror everywhere.

Your shadow becomes so real on the water that you have to look twice at the photo to decide which way is up. You could easily be doing a tandem ski with your twin. If the guy in the street tells you “Me, myself & I went skiing at Misverstand” be jealous, be very jealous.

Winter skiing is like ice skating on a perfect frozen ice patch. That “ssshhhhhh” sound as the blade cuts through the water is all you hear. Far away in the front a boat’s engine is silently pushing the boat effortlessly forward. Your body automatically follows your brains orders, going left then right over the wakes.

Putting all your faith in the skipper, you close your eyes for the ultimate experience – that’s when the silence is broken by the shrill sound of a passenger’s voice swearing that you messed up the perfect photographic moment.

Ons het ‘n Scibante wat 8 persone kan neem op ‘n keer. ‘n Hele groep kan sommer boek, bring jou pelle saam vir vet pret by die dam.

En as ski nou nie ding is nie - wat van tubing? Lekker groot tube’s waarin jy gemaklik sit en Nic laat jou vlieg oor die waters van die Groot Berg Rivier.

En as dit ook nou nie jou ding is nie, dan pak ons vir jou ‘n piekniek mandjie, ‘n grapkassie met ‘n paar biere en Nic neem jou op ‘n onvergeetlike trippie tot heel bo in die rivier. Die natuurskoon is asemrowend, groot verskeidenheid van wilde en mak dierelewe en rotsformasie enig in sy soort.
